Winter hiking and snowshoe hiking in Maria Alm
There is no better way to experience the snow-covered landscape than winter hiking. Cast off your everyday cares and set off on more than 85 kilometres of beautifully groomed winter hiking trails where you be enchanted by the beauty of the natural surroundings. The trails will take you through the villages of Maria Alm, Dienten and Mühlbach and then onto three of the most beautiful winter hikes in the region. They all begin in the centre of Maria Alm and continue on through the magnificent natural scenery.
There are many places to stop-off en route to warm yourself up and have some refreshments:
- Circular hiking trail - from Maria Alm along the Kraller stream in the direction of the Kronreith guest house, approx. 4km.
- Schloßberg “Walk of Fame” circular trail - from the centre of Maria Alm towards the entrance to the village up to the Hinterreit guest house, approx. 2km. Along the way you will be able to stop and look at a number of pillars that have been erected to honour famous skiers and include their handprints.
- Winter hike along the Natrun - from Maria Alm towards the Jufen guest house. You have the choice to either toboggan back into the valley or to continue walking to Hinterhal You can also take the post bus back to Maria Alm, if you prefer. Approx. 3km to the Jufen guest house. Approx. 4.5km to Hinterreith.
Snowshoe hiking is an attractive alternative to winter hiking. Passionate nature lovers can hike across country away from the usual winter hiking trails over expanses of virgin snow and reach the most beautiful hidden corners, which invite them to linger for a while, soak in the sunshine and feel their stresses fade away.
